FOREST PARK, Illinois (CBS) — A man was charged in the mass shooting Tuesday afternoon. Four people died on CTA Blue Line train the day before in west suburban Forest Park.
Rannie Davis, 30, of Chicago, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, according to Forest Park police.
All four victims were passengers on a Blue Line train headed to Forest Park Terminal when they were shot shortly before 5:30 a.m.
Three people were found dead at the scene, police said. A fourth man was taken to a local hospital, where he died. Authorities had identified two of the men by Tuesday afternoon — 28-year-old Simeon Bihesi and 60-year-old Adrian Collins.
Collins died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, while Bihesi died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The other two victims were a 52-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
CTA security and Forest Park police tracked down the suspected shooter using surveillance video. The suspect was found on a CTA Pink Line train and taken into custody Monday morning. A weapon was recovered.
Police said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.
Police said it did not appear the shooter knew any of the victims, all of whom were sleeping on the train. Police also said it did not appear the shooter tried to rob the victims and that the attack was completely random.
Cameras installed on trains captured every incident that happened during the mass shooting. CBS News Chicago has been told that the video is shocking and will be used as evidence.
“It’s unusual for multiple people to be killed simultaneously on a CTA train,” said CBS News Chicago legal analyst Irv Miller. “The CTA has more cameras than any other place in the entire country — high-definition cameras — so somebody basically had to say, ‘I’m going to do this, and I don’t care if I get caught or not.'”
Davis has been arrested multiple times since 2014 — and was sentenced that year to two years of probation for a simple battery charge. He also pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in 2020.
This is how the mass shooting happened CTA President Dorval Carter Jr. was already under fire – demands for his resignation by making In the spotlight in MayThe murders have revived hatred for Carter among some Chicago elders.
Meanwhile, the Forest Park Blue Line Terminal has been a concern for law enforcement Forest Park Village leadership says problems at the terminal go back years — and are now worse.
A news conference for further details about the charges is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
