Mariah Carey’s mother and sister both died last weekend, the singer confirmed to CBS News in a statement Monday.
The 55-year-old singer did not specify how or on what day his mother and sister died.
“I’m heartbroken that I lost my mom this past weekend,” Kerry said. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mother before her.”
Carey’s mother, Patricia Carey, was an opera singer and she Recorded with his daughter before his death. Mariah Carey previously told CBS “Sunday Morning” that her mother was The first person to inspire him.
“Well, my mother tells a story,” Kerry said. “He said he was doing ‘Rigoletto,’ and he kept rehearsing a part over and over. And then, he messed up. And I said, ‘No, it goes like this,’ and sang it to him.”
Carey said that’s when her mother decided, “‘Well, she must have a special ear. And let me encourage it.'”
Kerry had an estranged relationship with her sister Alison, diversity Reported citing Kerry’s memoirs. In it, the singer wrote that it was “safer for me emotionally and physically to have no contact” with Allison and her brother Morgan.
