While the judicial reforms are being debated in the Chamber of Deputies, this Tuesday, Senators morenaSaul Monreal, presented one Bill to Abolish Life Pension of Ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) in retirement.
The reform amends Articles 129 and 163 of the Organic Act of the Judicial Branch of the Federation relating to the remuneration of Ministers, Magistrates and Judges.
In his proposal, Saul Monreal Avila Note that 11 Ministers were allocated in the Federation’s last Expenditure Budget 206,948 pesos net remuneration, while the salary of the President of the Republic is 129,432 pesos.
It noted that, according to data from the Ministry of Finance, there are 241 civil servants employed in the courts who are paid more than the federal chief executive and another 197 people in the remaining structure of the federal judicial branch are paid more than the limit of Article 127 of the Constitution.
In the explanatory statement, Saul Monreal noted that as part of the austerity policy adopted by the President of the Republic and the National Regeneration Movement, it is necessary to eliminate the lifetime pension for ministers of the court, since “This advantage is greater than any other than a government employee or the majority of the population working in the private sector.”
Ministers dying during the exercise of their office or after its termination, their spouses and their minor sons and daughters or those who are unable to work for their livelihood, shall be entitled to a pension equivalent to 50. The percentage of monthly remuneration is the minister himself.
